I am about to build my first deck.
Isn t deep enough to accommodate siding thickness.
The decking is usually 1 in.
Air space between the decking surface and bottom of the siding course.
The chalk line should be about 1 inch below the door that will open onto the finished deck.
Next snap a chalk line across the siding the same length of the board.

Measure the exact width and length of the ledger board with a tape measure.
Make the outline large enough to include space for the deck boards on top the ledger and any trim boards on the sides.

Oh well i guess i ll mention it because if the deck builders just bolted through the siding then the flashing may not be adequate or even there.
Snap a chalk line cut out the siding and tack up the ledger board.
Im assuming i need to remove it just as i would vinyl or wood siding in order to provide a flat surface for the ledger board.
Tap the posts into place with a sledgehammer.
Drill a inch diameter screw shank clearance hole through the ledger board but not into the sill plate.
Wrb and siding to overlap the top.
Set the blade depth so you won t cut into the house sheathing below the siding.
Then slip flashing behind the siding covering the top edge of the ledger.
